Delhi Daredevils ropes in 12 sponsors, expects significant revenues from ticket sales in IPL 11

With a valuation at Rs 1,100 crore, Delhi Daredevils, the GMR Group-owned Delhi franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL), is starting the eleventh edition of the tournament on a high. 

Earlier this month, the company sold a 50% stake in GMR Sports, which owns Delhi Daredevils, to JSW Sports for ?550 crore. 

The team has also roped in 12 sponsors and partners and is ready to roll out its branding campaign for IPL 11, scheduled to kick off on April 7. 

 “We have a great team this year with all the bases covered. Gautam (Gambhir) is back in the team as captain. Business wise, we have closed most of the sponsorships with almost 30-40% increase in value. All in all, there is a lot of confidence this time,” Hemant Dua, CEO, GMR Sports, told ET. 

Delhi Daredevils has renewed its team sponsorship deal with Daikin for the next three years, while Suzuki and Nature Fresh have come on board as principal sponsors. Reliance Jio will also be associated with the outfit for multiple seasons. 

Among other sponsors and partners are Nerolac, DTDC, Air India, Fever 104, Tic Tac, Coca Cola, T10 and The Lalit. 

“This time, we have closed sponsors well in advance, which is a validation of the value they see in their association with Delhi Daredivils,” Dua said.


Delhi Daredevils, which has so far had a below-par run at the IPL, will also be getting more than ?200 crore from the central revenue pool after Star India’s jaw-dropping media rights deal with the BCCI. 

Further, the team is expecting significant revenues from ticket sales. “Last year, we had 92% occupancy in the stadium for home matches. We have the highest number of hospitality seats and we have already seen 400,000 registrations. The interest is phenomenal,” said Dua. 

The team has partnered with PayTM for ticket sales on ticketing site Insider and a loyalty programme, Dua believes, will help strengthen the connect with fans throughout the year. 

The team also has plans to develop merchandising as a serious revenue stream. Last year, Delhi Daredevils partnered T10, a local manufacturer, and has decided to continue the alliance this year too. For this season, the team will sell its merchandise across 10-12 outlets in Delhi and on e-commerce web sites.
